Prof. Irakli Simonia
Astrophysics
Prof. Irakli Simonia investigated
the dynamics of cometary atmospheres. He invented the method of luminescent
microstructurography (Patent N 404, Georgia). Studied the microstructure of iron
meteorites. Investigated the character of distribution of craters on planet
surfaces, as well as some peculiarities of the process of photochemical
evolution of their icy surfaces.
At present he studies the luminescence of solid cosmic matter including the
cosmic dust. He offered the model of frozen hydrocarbon particles. Showed that a
number of unidentified emissions of comets, reflection nebulae and of some other
objects is the photoluminescence of FHP. He described the main character of the
process of photoluminescence of frozen hydrocarbon particles. He revealed
presence of carbonaceous dust in planetary nebula NGC 7027.
The sphere of his scientific interest covers as well the nature of AGN dust and
the problem of dark matter.
